A digital marketer is only as good as their tools.
And, the best tools on the web save you time and money, especially when they are free!
Over the years, I have seen countless innovations on the web. And, things change so quickly that sometimes it’s hard to keep up. It absolutely can be a full-time job.
To help you “keep up”, I briefly outline the tools that hold a spot on my browser’s bookmarks. I hope these freebies help you as much as they have helped me over the years. Being a digital marketer means searching and finding some great shortcuts. Enjoy!
Pixabay is an impressive free stock photo vendor.
It is supported by a generous community of talented photographers and graphic artists. Their stock imagery is available in a range of different resolutions. I’ve relied on Pixabay to create content for numerous clients across different industries.
Like Pixabay, Pexels is completely free.
You can also find any photo available in a range of resolutions. Scores of talented contributors furnish bright, beautiful and relevant photography, suitable for all types of content, any digital marketer can imagine.
With over 70,000 contributing photographers, Unsplash is without question a solid contender in the free stock photo arena.
Unsplash touts a very active community of contributors whose work ranges from breathtaking vistas and outdoor scenes, to highly contextual statement-making imagery.
Google News offers an expansive news feed of the world’s trending articles in a no hassle environment. As a digital marketer, responsible for curating content on many different subject matters, Google News is definitely my “go-to” place for trending events, relative to my clients.
Find breaking news in virtually any area of interest with just a few keywords. Or, hunt down that elusive article that hits the nail on the head for your next great social media share.
Keep track of news items, by industry with Google Alerts.
Google Alerts will ensure that you never miss a beat when it comes to industry news and highlights. In just a few clicks, you can set up alerts that will be delivered to your inbox. This is a great way for any digital marketer to stay up to date with topics that interest you. For me, everything from STEM education and Arduino to plumbing! Why? Because I scrape the web looking for news and trends for my clients and this definitely saves me time.
Extensions for Google Chrome
Chrome extensions are awesome.
Here are a few that have stood the test of time:
- Pinterest. The Pinterest Chrome extension gives you on the fly ability to pin stuff you find to your favorite boards. You can also see items that are visually similar to the one you hover your mouse over.
- Hootsuite. Hootsuite’s Hootlet (cute, I know) allows you to share web pages instantly, across your social media platforms. Browse away and share or schedule, with this clever and useful extension.
- SEO Meta in 1 Click. This useful Chrome extension displays the SEO information of the current web page. It shows you a complete profile of SEO attributes including meta content, HTML tags, links, image data and much more.
- Ad Block. A reliable ad blocker for Chrome. It blocks most ads, thereby saving you the wait as less files are downloaded while you browse.
Pocket is an indispensable tool for saving and organizing content that you come across on the web.
When browser bookmarks just don’t seem to cut it, Pocket steps in to save the day. With Pocket you can save and sort videos, blog posts, articles, images and more.
